Mount Kenya Ecosystem

mount-kenya.jpeg

About the Site

Dominated by Africa's second-highest peak, Mount Kenya, this ecosystem is a tapestry of diverse habitats, from glaciers and alpine meadows to forests and savannas.

It's a vital source of water for surrounding communities and a shelter for wildlife, including elephants, lions, and endangered primates.

However, the ecosystem faces threats from deforestation, land degradation, and human-wildlife conflict.

JEOC explores how Earth observation can be used to promote both conservation and social justice in this complex landscape.

Use of EO

Earth observation technologies are used to monitor biodiversity, track land use changes, and support anti-poaching efforts.
